dannyrammstein asked: you remember your first time? how it was?
I was about 10 years old. That’s probably younger than most, but I certainly felt like I was ready. My mom had decided it was time she showed me the ropes. I was nervous of course, but mostly just excited to be doing something so “grown up.” I wondered if I should even brag about to my peers later, or just keep it to myself.
We left my siblings back at the house, and my mom took me out on a back country road. It was so quiet back there. No one else was around for miles.
She let me climb into the driver’s seat and taught me how to start the car, release the parking break, and put it into gear. Our family car was an automatic, so that made things easier. Within a few minutes, I was driving along at 20 miles an hour or so without assistance.
We found a large open area, and she taught me how to do a 3 point turn. I nailed it on my first attempt. I was very proud of myself.
We had many lessons after that. I did so well that my mom let me get me get my driver’s license as soon as I was old enough, no questions asked.
